CATHOLIC CHARITIES PLANS SERVICE CENTER

On May 22, children from St. Anne’s wearing hard hats and carrying toy tools represented the beginning of “Swinging the Sledgehammer,” the Open House celebrating the renovation of Catholic Charities Spokane’s new building at 12 E. 5th Avenue. The building that was once the Cowley office building, purchased by Sacred Heart Medical Center and located across the street from St. Anne’s Children and Family Center, will be called the Catholic Charities Spokane Family Services Center. It will house 11 of Catholic Charities’ programs, reducing the need for office leases throughout the city and providing “one-stop shopping” for our clients. Executive Director Rob McCann welcomed guests, and Bishop Skylstad blessed the site. Renderings by architect Ann Martin were presented to guests. Catholic Charities Program Directors and administrative staff gave tours of the building, describing how the remodeling will proceed. Thus opens a new chapter in the long and estimable history of Catholic Charities.

Catholic Charities Receives Fourth Consecutive Four-Star Ranking
Charity Navigator is America’s largest independent evaluator of charities

For the fourth consecutive year, Catholic Charities Spokane has earned the highest rating possible from Charity Navigator for sound fiscal management.  Wrote Charity Navigator, “This exceptional designation differentiates Catholic Charities Spokane from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”  Just 10% of the charities rated have received three consecutive 4-star evaluations – even fewer have received four consecutive 4-star rankings, indicating that Catholic Charities Spokane outperforms most charities in the U.S. in operating with exceptional financial integrity.

“Catholic Charities Spokane is grateful for the favorable review and 4-star ranking by Charity Navigator,” said Executive Director Rob McCann.  “Our organization is committed to the highest standards of good stewardship and accountability.  It’s a wonderful credit to our staff and Board that for four straight years we have achieved this recognition.”

An independent certified public accounting firm, overseen by the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors, conducts an annual audit of Catholic Charities Spokane finances.  Funds are maintained in separate accounts and are not co-mingled with those of the Diocese of Spokane.

Charity Navigator (www.charitynavigator.org) is an independent, non-profit organization that provides information about the accountability, transparency and quantifiable results of charitable organizations.  It provides analysis and ratings of over 3,400 charities for free to provide objective, unbiased analytical information on America's largest charities, allowing individuals and businesses to determine whether donating to those charities is likely to have a positive impact.
